Residents of Denkyira Obuasi have been captured weeping following the killing of Maxwell Mahama. Major Maxwell Mahama was lynched by an angry mob in the area after being mistaken for a thief.
The Major is feared to have been killed after being mistaken for a thief by the irate mob. The entire township of Denkyira-Obuasi turned to a ghost town after residents fled the area for fear of reprisal attacks.
Meanwhile, a sorrowful video by GHone News showed how the distraught women of Denkyira Obuasi drowned in tears mourning not just the killing of the fallen soldier but also the brutalities meted him by the male-dominated mob of the town.

Clad in red and black attire with bereaved faces, the leader of the gathering pleaded “‘they should forgive us for the heinous crime our people have committed, we are sorry,” as he addresses the gathering.
Maxwell Mahama was with the 4th Battalion Unit at Burma Camp. His state burial service, which was underway at the forecourts of the State House in Accra, saw hundreds of Ghanaians including high level politicians and members of government pay their last respects to him.
More than 46 suspects have so far been arrested in connection with the killing.
