Photos: Commercial Sex Workers in Ashaiman Blames President Mahama for Decline in Business

Commercial sex workers in Ashaiman’s “Two Two Line” popularly referred to as ‘Tsinai Agbe’ area bewail decline in business.

Prostitution as an occupation for some time now has found it feet in most Central Business Districts in Ghana. “Ladies of the night” have been surviving via this
activity despite it illicit nature for decades. This business often get to its apogee in festive seasons in Ghana increasing the revenue generation of commercial
sex workers. However, the story seem different this time round as most of the ladies complained about low influx of clients, thus affecting their income level.

Some commercial sex workers claimed the unstable economic condition of the country had had a tremendous negative impact on their job.
A number of prostitutes complained about the gross decline in business which has affected their income level vis-a-via the standard of living.

Speaking to ashaimanonline.com, Janet, a lady of the night, said “since John Dramani Mahama became the president, the business has dwindle to a level beyond my imagination.
Now the men don’t come as they use to and the few that come around want to pay lesser than the amount we charge.”

Another prostitute said “we use to charge GH₵10.00 for the short time but now when we request for even GH₵5.00, some of the clients bargain”.
Business in this Christmas season is bad as compared to previous years but we hope early next year would be profitable”.

  • If these poor destitute are lamenting about the decline state of their early tomb job and moreover expecting its apogee basically because new government is yet to assume responsibilities, then it obviously opposite, because Ghana needs to grow hence the need to avoid such filthy act.

  • Mahama is being blamed for this?! I hope socoal workers will go to the aid of these women. Most of them can easily be engaged in small business. Five cedis for an activity that can easily expose them to STDs is suicidal.
