The scholarship secretariat in Ghana has offered a full scholarship to all continuing Senior High School students of Denkyira Obuasi in the Central Region.
Denkyira Obuasi became a popular town after some residents in the area lynched an officer of the 5th Infantry Battalion, Major Maxwell Mahama on May 29, 2017.
Acting President of the Denkyira Obuasi Traditional Area, Nana Agyei Nkyireye II
The residents of Denkyira Obuasi suspected the late soldier to be an armed robber and therefore murdered him in his line of duty.
A total of 60 suspects arrested in connection with the murder has since made an appearance at the Accra Central District Court.
This has led to a public disdain for the residents of the area.
However, according to sources, the scholarship scheme is part of measures taken by the government together with other stakeholders in a restoration process of the town.
