Dr. Tei Djahene Korabo IV, Chief of Manya Jorpanya traditional area in the Shai State in the Shai–Osuduku District in the Greater Accra Region, is allegedly involved in illegal sale and/or lease of families’ lands without the consent of the respective families, ashaimanonline.com reveals.
The natives of Manya Jorpanya are accusing their chief of unlawfully selling and/or leasing portions of their family lands to outsiders.
According to sources, the land in dispute is about 12,220 acres with about 3000 acres in Jorpanya and about 9220 acres at Esutware junction in the Shai Osuduku District in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. These acres are what he (Dr. Tei Djahene) has told his appointed family heads, Wekunyatseme in the Shai language.
Led by undisclosed members of the affected families, the indigenes are calling on the government and the president, His Excellence Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo to step in and stop this illegal activity being carried out by their chief and some members of his council.
The furious youth and members of the affected families are calling on the chief and others involved in the illegal disposition of families’ lands to hand over the lands to its allodial owners since the lands in dispute is not stool lands, but lands belonging to the seven families who established the Manya Jorpanya traditional area, as history confirms.
Elders and family members who are claiming ownership of the Manya Jorpanya lands, say certain “faceless” officials in government, corporate institutions, individuals, as well as their own chief, are behind attempts to rob them of their rightful inheritance.
They have issued a stern warning to all those involved in either the sale or disposal of lands in the traditional area to immediately put a halt to the practice, since they have no authority whatsoever to sell lands belonging to families in the area without their approval. They made it clear that sale and/or lease of families’ lands could only be done by the chief in consultation with the respective families.
There were litigations years back in relation to the illegal sale of some parcels of land in the same enclave of Manya Jorpanya to unidentifiable bodies by the chief.
The accusation against Dr. Tei Djahene Korabo IV, is evident in his promise to lease a vast land to support government’s flagship programme, ‘one district, one factory’ project which is yet to be commenced by the NPP government, as reported by Rite 90.1 FM.
It is alleged that he has sold some parcels of the families’ lands to Narh-Bita Hospital, some filling stations, corporate bodies and individuals who would soon start work on the lands.
According to a close source, Dr. Tei Djahene Korabo IV is actually the chief warrior referred to in the local Shai parlance as the ‘Asafoatse’ and not a Divisional Chief or Omanhene as he parade himself and as such is not mandated to even sell stool lands yet to talk of families’ lands per tradition.
A family member who spoke on anonymity said, “it is extremely difficult to end my arousing disgust when I ruminate over the heart-breaking news on the ongoing sale and/or lease of our family lands to outsiders by our own chief without our consent.
“Indeed I cannot remit my fury in condemnation of this ill practice being perpetuated in our community.
“I am vehemently calling on our chief, Dr. Tei Djahene IV of Manya Jorpanya traditional area to eschew this act and allow the respective families to take possession of their lands and/or involve them in any decision concerning the sale and/or lease of families’ lands in the area.”
Another member said, “we have cautioned him on several occasions to desist from his despoilment attitude and handover lands to the respective families or even involve them in decisions about the lands, but this has proven futile.
“He is acting like a tyrant, taking decisions and imposing it on us without consulting anybody. In fact, whatever he says is final, no one can object for fear of inhibition.
“He parade himself as the divisional chief of the Manya Jorpanya traditional area eulogizing himself with titles such as His Excellency, His Royal Majesty, the Emperor, Dr. Nene Tei Djahene Korabo IV.
He has surrounded himself with illiterates who he easily manipulate to buy into his ideologies without questioning or seeking clarification on issues. They are even prepared to defend him at any cost because of the little money he influence them with, ” he added.

An elder who made a revelation to ashaimanonline.com said, “I am really disappointed in Dr. Tei Djahene Korabo IV as our self acclaimed chief. He is really not a chief as he ignorantly see himself. He has amass great wealth from families’ properties to enrich himself and his nuclear family to the detriment of the rest of the families whose wealth he is sitting on.
“It is really an eye saw how deplorable some families’ traditional houses once occupied by our great ancestors who establish the community are. Our roads are in poor state. Is this the kind of development he boast about to the media?
“He has given ‘ghost’ promises on several occasions to rehabilitate the dilapidated structures in the community in a bid to console the families. He has renovated his family house and that of others who are on his side.
“We need our lands back!”, he said angrily.

History of the disputed Lands and the enstoolment of Dr. Tei Djahene Korabo IV
Dr. Tei Djahene Korabo IV as popularly referred to, is actually the Asafoatse (Chief warrior) with the stool name Asafoatse Tei Djahene IV, and not the divisional chief of Manya Jorpanya as he parade himself, according to sources.
According to the Manya Jorpanya unimpeachable oral history, seven families – the Tei Djahene, the Martey Anomah, the Teetey Ackam, the Tei Kisseh, the Aboanner Susu Mienu, the Thah Kakenya, and the Korleynya, migrated from Israel to their present-day abode, somewhere in the mid-century. They acquired and occupied the lands in the area. The ancestors of Dr. Tei Djahene Korabo IV were one of the seven families to have fought to acquire the lands in question.
Some leaders among the seven families, journeyed on to acquire additional lands in other areas in the Eastern Region of Ghana such as Suhum in a place called “Mamehweso” , “Akrabo” and its environs, settled for some time and then appointed people as stewards over the lands.
As the Shai tradition demanded, a leader was to be appointed to oversee the lands and under which the people would be governed. One of such prominent leaders was the late Baffour Narteh Anomah I, the Odikro of Suhum Ayerkotse who ruled and protected the lands at Manya Jorpanya and its environs for decades without any illegal sale and/or lease.
As custom demanded, he appointed some leaders to assist in the administration of the area, among them was the Asafoatse Blematesa Tei Djahene III who ruled with him and after him.
After the demise of Nene Narteh Anomah in 1995, there was a chieftaincy dispute led by Dr. Tei Djahene Korabo IV who is currently the self-acclaimed divisional chief of the Manya Jorpanya traditional area.
He impeached Asafoatse Blematesa Tei Djahene III of Manya Jorpanya, challenging his inheritance on the basis that he fall within the maternal line and as such is not eligible to be the Asafoatse.
The dispute based on the principle of royalty continued for some times and finally led to the destoolment of Asafoatse Blematesa Tei Djahene III and the enstoolment of Dr. Tei Djahene Korabo IV as the Asafoatse of Manya Jorpanya traditional area in 1998.
On response to his resolution by the National House of Chiefs, the status of a divisional chief was added to his initial enstooled title ‘Asafoatse IV’ to become Divisional Chief/ Senior Asafoatse IV without the consent of his family and the kingmakers of the Shai State.
This act which seemed illegal, created a misunderstanding. The family challenged his divisional chief status because he was not enstooled a chief. His elder Manklalo Okpotesa summoned him (Asafoatse Tei Djahene) before the Shai Traditional Council to defend the accusation.
The case was transferred to the Regional House of Chiefs upon request which is believed to be the manipulation of Asafoatse Tei Djahene, and ever since, the case has not been addressed.
Hence, his status as a divisional chief not recognized by his family and the kingmakers of the Shai State.
As a way of revenge to get rid of all obstacles, Asafoatse Tei Djahene Korabo IV forceful removed and replaced some significant leaders of the council. He replaced Mankralo Okpotesa with Odetum, Gyase Martey Anomah with Gyase Kwaku Kumah, Simpim Amoako with Ayertey Narh and also unlawfully appointed and imposed new heads called ‘Wekunyatseme’ (in the local Shai language) on all the seven families.
These newly appointed family heads serve in his interest without any opposition. They also serve as the council members in the Manya Divisional Council, a council he mischievously created not recognized by the Shai Traditional Council.
Manya Jorpanya is the village of the people of Dodowa Manya. The people of Manya Jorpanya fall within the Hiomerh Divisional Council recognized by the Shai chiefs and the Shai Traditional Council.
Asafoatse Tei Djahene joined hands with the then Paramount Chief of Dodowa Nene Naggi Kassa VII, the rival of the late Baffour Narteh Anomah, leader of Jorpanya. He (Asafoatse Tei Djahene) neglected his elders and created the Manya Divisonal Council under which he operated till date.
For some time now, there have been claims that Dr. Djahene Korabo IV’s administration is characterized by autocracy. Properties (lands) belonging to families, have all been grabbed, sold/leased and controlled by him with the help of some military and police officials in the Shai Hills area.
